🌿 Summary: Gratitude is built with a strict privacy-first, offline-first philosophy. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal journal entries, photos, or biometric data. Everything you write stays solely on your personal device.
1. Information We Do Not Collect
Gratitude does not require you to create an account, log in, or provide any personal identification (such as your name, email, phone number, or home address). Specifically:
Journal Entries & Prompts: All your daily gratitude reflections, categories, tags, and moods are stored strictly on your local device storage using an encrypted SQLite database (Room).
Photos & Attachments: Any photos attached to your memories remain in your local app sandbox.
No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use third-party analytics trackers, tracking cookies, or advertising SDKs.
2. Device Permissions & How They Are Used
The app requests the minimum permissions necessary solely to deliver core user-initiated features:
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used solely to deliver your chosen daily reminder notifications at the exact hour you configure in Settings. No promotional or remote push messages are ever sent.
Exact Alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM): Used to trigger your scheduled daily reminders accurately even when the device is in power-saving mode.
Biometrics & Device Lock (USE_BIOMETRIC / USE_FINGERPRINT): Used optionally if you enable the App Lock feature. All biometric authentication is processed exclusively by Android's hardware security module (Secure Element / TEE). The app never has access to, nor stores, your raw fingerprint or face data.
3. Data Storage, Backup, and Deletion
Local Storage: All data is stored in your device's internal private application directory.
Data Export & Backup: You have full control over your data. You can export a local JSON backup or CSV at any time, or share milestone achievement cards. These files are saved strictly where you choose on your device or cloud drive.
Complete Data Deletion: You can delete individual journal entries at any time within the app. Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all stored journal entries and preferences from your device.
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR Compliance)
Gratitude does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). The app is safe and suitable for all age groups.
5. Third-Party Services
The app operates completely offline without mandatory third-party web services or cloud servers. If you choose to share a gratitude card or text reflection via the Android share sheet, data is transferred only to the specific application you deliberately select.
